Tao Tang is Chair Professor with the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety. He is a senior member of IEEE. His research interests include communication-based train control (CBTC), high-speed train control systems, intelligent transportation systems, and rail traffic modelling and optimization. As the team leader, his research team has developed a communication-based train control system, which has been put into operation since 2010. This is the first system independently by Chinese groups. In 2017, his team further extended the CBTC system into a fully-automated train operation (FAO) system, being applied in Beijing Subway Yanfang Line.
