I undertake research and education, primarily with the international trade union movement, specialising in the informal transport industry. Prior to establishing the Global Labour Institute in Manchester in 2010, I worked for Women in Informal Economy Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO), and trade unions, workers’ education and international development organisations.
Recent work has included research on the impact of BRT and formalisation policy on the informal transport workforce in Nairobi, Dakar, Kampala, Abidjan and Accra in partnership with the International Transportworkers Federation, Agence Française de Développement and Transitec engineering consultancy. I am also a consultant on informal work and formalisation with the ILO and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), and a member of the UITP Informal Transport Working Group.
