Matt Shelden, AICP has been developing expanded transit options for almost 30 years. He helped develop Sound Transit’s 1996 plan that led to the first light rail, commuter rail and multi-county express bus service in the Seattle region, and led development of the 2008 plan that is extending light rail north, east and south of Seattle. He helped initiate the region’s first bus rapid transit services and led a 14 KM light rail extension through preliminary design and environmental review in support of a US$1.1 BN grant. He currently directs Sound Transit’s efforts to improve access to its facilities and services, including testing new technological approaches and responding to new mobility options, and is leading the agency’s exploration of opportunities for public-private partnerships as the latest system expansion program unfolds.
