MAVIS (Mobility Assistance for the Visually Impaired and Selected Users)

"The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), INIT, and SG Enable are collaborating on a trial of various assistive technologies that explores how public buses in Singapore can be made more inclusive and accessible for persons with disabilities. The trial focuses on passengers who are either Visually Impaired, Hard-of-Hearing, or Wheelchair users. The trial provides these passengers with enhanced information and communication abilities, controlled via a Smartphone app, to allow them to better plan, manage, and feel in control of their journey. This includes being able to communicate with the bus driver.

The objectives of the project include:
    • Identify the functionality which provides most benefit to the users
    • Understand how to make this functionality bus-driver friendly
    • Design and trial an interface, based on open published standards, that allows Smartphones to communicate with the bus captains via their Fleet Management System"
