Alejandro Schmidt is a Chilean Transportation Engineer with a MSc on Transportation Science. During his career, he has advised the Public Transport Authority (DTPM) in Santiago generating direct impact on the operational performance of the transit system (over 6500 buses). Since 2018, Alejandro is CEO of BusAssist, a fleet management platform that enables operators and authorities to improve public transport systems’ reliability. Alejandro has made presentations at several international public transport conferences in Sweden, the Netherlands, the United States and Chile.

    Reliability in public transport can be significantly improved using technological solutions and harnessing the power of real time information. One of the main challenges every transit system faces is dealing with headway irregularity and customer dissatisfaction due to unreliable waiting times.BusAssist is a fleet management platform that provides real time operational suggestions in order to help make better decisions and reach operational excellence. Using cloud-based apps, BusAssist displays the essential online information and provides advise to vehicle dispatchers. Through on-board devices, real time suggestions are displayed to the drivers with the goal of reducing users’ waiting time at stops.In the case of Santiago, Redbus Urbano (a Transdev company) improved its operational performance significantly, reducing the fines in over 400k USD per year.
