Female train drivers and improving diversityThe objective of the project is to increase the number of our female train drivers through increasing applicants to >40% by 2021 with additional goal to improve diversity overall in the role. The project combines a series of carefully targeted campaigns and changes to the role and training designed to encourage and foster successful applications and retention of female train drivers. We have activated a range of internal initiatives that brings about real change to foster our ambitions, including training on unconscious bias, Formation of Women’s Network Group, first grass-roots support network, co-sponsoring the 2018 D&I Conference, and the annual ‘Celebrating Us’ calendar, featuring a diverse celebration of cultures, holidays, groups and individuals from across the GTR network, a specially branded ‘rainbow flag’ Southern train and supported Pride, provided Mentoring programmes for women leaders and managers, and improved job attractiveness for women.
