  • June 10: Cooperating with the authorities for security on transport networks

What is the impact of the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on Security?

The General Data Protection Regulation, shortly named GDPR, came into force on May 25th 2018. This Regulation is fundamentally reshaping the way in which personal data is handled across every sector. The GDPR regulates the processing of personal data (i.e., information which helps in identifying a natural person) of European citizens. To comply with this new regulation, organizations have to comply with the GDPR requirements as non-compliance may have a significant impact on the organizations (penalties). What’s the impact of this on Security activities within Public Transport as they are dealing with personal data, i.e. CCTV images, audio, access records, localization records etc. They will have to review the governance, perform assessments, conduct awareness campaigns and list their data treatments. Implementation of GDPR requirements is a shared responsibility.
